It probably goes without saying, but diets are never easy. Being the foodies that we are here at Lithia Chrysler Jeep of Reno, it's truly no picnic having to cut back on the food we love. Then again, we know it's worth it. And now that it looks like our very own Jeep Wrangler will be cutting back on carbs, we just know it'll be worth it in the long run.

Now, it's not every day that one of our new and used cars has to go on a diet, but desperate times call for desperate measures. At the moment, the 2013 Jeep Wrangler boasts a fuel economy of 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. While that's certainly nothing to scoff at, it's unfortunately not enough meet our government's rising standards.

In an effort to make our industry more fuel-efficient than ever before and less reliant on fossil fuels, the brass at Jeep will have to adhere to the federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards which recently decreed that our lineup must get an average of 54.5 mpg by the year 2025. Not only does this mean big changes for the Wrangler, but big changes for everybody.

"There's nothing that's going to be immune from the wrath of CAFE as we move forward," says Dave Sullivan, an analyst with AutoPacific Inc. "The Wrangler is a very high volume vehicle so it's definitely going to have an affect on CAFE . . . but that being said they have a whole arsenal of things they can do."1

Speaking of which, word has it that our engineers are looking into ways to lightweight future Wrangler models without compromising on everything that's always made it special. So until we hear more, feel free to take this beauty for a spin before we send it to the sweat lodge at our dealership here in Reno, NV. And don't worry, just remember: diets are a good thing.
